A major obstacle that many beginner meditators encounter when they try a meditation session is the unruly mind. This agitated state of mind often has many names, one of which is the ‘monkey mind’.
The most common misconception is that your meditation practice is going to clear your mind and that the monkey mind disappears. Often times, this type of false expectation leads beginning meditators to quit out of frustration. It is important to realize that this monkey mind will be a constant companion that you will need to train to be successful with your meditation practice. By understanding how to better control your monkey mind, you will also bring more discipline to your life.
