Episode 5: Impermanence – Why You Need to Learn How To Let Things Go

In last week’s episode, we discussed how human nature makes it difficult for us to rest on our laurels due to hedonic adaptation.  This week, we explore a closely related topic of impermanence – the fact that everything in life is fleeting.  What has a beginning will inevitably have an end.  While this may sound fatalistic on the surface, there is something inherently freeing in coming to terms with this fact.

 

We discuss examples of how impermanence shows itself in our own lives and in Ten Percent Happier.  We also talk about how it can be freeing not to grasp at things that will inherently disappear as well as how mindfulness can help.
